Tundra
Someday
I will walk out
Into the tundra
And finally blend
With the white of the snow
Like an arctic hare
Solitary polar bear
I will go
I will quietly freeze
And die
While the bitter winds blow
My end will come
Right there
Goodbye
'midst the swirling
Frozen waste
Alone
Away
All sins erased
Yes,
Far astray
Frosty and solid
Just one lone cube
From God's ice tray
I will calmly freeze
Yes
Down to the bone
And be my own tombstone
Peacefully free
After my mother
And father are gone
When my foolish illusions
Have long since flown
And no one is left
To share this hollow home
The empty cold will be
My one last friend
Eternally
No horrible pain
No radical change
I fondly anticipate
The impersonal needles
That usher in the end.
